Hosting events is no longer the preserve of a handful of rich and established host nations and cities. Rights holders have realised the financial and social benefits of taking their events to fast developing economies and other non-traditional sporting centres. ‘Emerging Nations’ have in -turn realised the wide ranging benefits associated with hosting events including their ability to strengthen the economy, drive tourism , regenerate deprived areas and generate high visibility media coverage . But of course there are risks associated with moving away from experienced locations.
Presented by Emirates, Host Cities is a two day conference and supporting exhibition in Dubai where bidders and prospective host countrieswill gather and meet with rights holders to discuss how to bid for and organise events that leave a positive legacy.
The first edition of the summit, which took place at the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai from place 4-5 December 2012, saw key opinion formers from sporting federations including FIFA,ICC, IRB, NBA and IAAF meet with organising committees from countries such as Qatar, Russia and China to discuss how to host sporting events.
Host Cities 2013 will take place from 4-5 December in Dubai.
