Dr. Danny Alexander Jordaan Vice President of the South African Football Association, Special Advisor of the Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup
Daniel Alexander Jordaan, is currently the Vice President of the South African Football Association and recently Chief Executive Officer of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa, life’s history is enriched with a variety of dynamic paths that eventually earned him the position at the top of the World’s most prestigious international sporting event.
Popularly known as Danny, he has over the years been a Senior Lecturer, Politician, Sports Administrator, Businessman and a Political activist in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. He was also an active sportsperson participating in various sport including soccer, cricket and hockey.
ACADEMIC He studied at the University of Western Cape in Cape Town, and the University of South Africa in Pretoria completing a Bachelor of Arts, Diploma in Higher Education, Honours Degrees, and was recently honoured with a Degree Doctor of Administration (D ADMIN) (HONORIS CAUSA) from the University of South Africa. He was further honoured with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from the Nelson Mandela University (HONORIS CAUSA), as well as, a Doctor of Philosophy from his alma mater, University of the Western Cape.
POLITICS He joined the South African Student Organization (SASO), and the South African Black Students Intervarsity Council (SABIC) where he served as a member of the National Council. SASO was a black student movement led by Steve Biko in the 1970’s.
After completing his studies he returned to Eastern Cape to join the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the South African Council on Sport (SACOS), both bodies being pivotal in the national struggle against apartheid. He became the Vice President of SACOS in the Eastern Cape whilst serving as the President of the Eastern Province Soccer Board.
In 1984 he became the Deputy President of the South African Soccer Federation. These organizations pursued the ideals of 1. A single non–racial football organization; 2. A non- racial democratic SOUTH AFRICA (an end to Apartheid).
In 1994 he served as a member of parliament (National Assembly) under President Nelson Mandela. During this period Danny served as a member of the Department of Trade & Industries Delegation for the South Africa – European Union Trade Agreement. He also served on the presidential task team to deal with the transfer of diplomatic recognition from Taiwan (a partner of apartheid South Africa) to the People’s Republic of China (Beijing).
FOOTBALL In July 1991 he presented South Africa’s case for re-admission to the CAF delegation in Johannesburg South Africa as the Acting President of South African Football. The CAF Delegation was led President Mr Issa Hayatou. Later in 1991, he was elected to serve as Vice President of SAFA. In 1997 he was appointed as Chief Executive of the South Africa FA and in 1998 he was seconded to serve as the Chief Executive of the 2006 FIFA World Cup South Africa Bid.
In September 2000 Danny Jordaan returned to the post of Chief Executive of the South African FA until 2001. In December 2001 he was again seconded to the 2010 FIFA World Cup Bid South Africa.
The COMMERCIALIZATION of South African football was his key responsibility as CEO and in this area he helped to transform the economy of South African Football raising the revenue from 3, 2 million USD to 35 million USD. He introduced a financial assistance programme as well as, providing transport in the form of busses and cars for the benefit of the regions of the South African Football Association. As part of the international program he arranged various international matches. Danny Jordaan delivered various papers at numerous international conferences dealing with the global economy, the Football economy, marketing, African Football, as well as, racism in Football. He has also served as a venue director at various FIFA events i.e. World Youth Championship, Confederations Cup and the Senior World Cup. He researched and analysed the 1994 FIFA World CupTM USA & 1998 FIFA World Cup FranceTM in preparation for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Bid. The South African Bid was ranked equal to the German World Cup Bid.
He served in various capacities in relation to the FIFA World Cup – 1994 – World Cup USA – investigate, and research of the FIFA requirements and demands of the World Cup.
He served on the FIFA Marketing & Television Board from 1998 to 2004 and from 2004 to current he serves as a member of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee Germany. |
Mr. NG Ser Miang Vice President International Olympic Committee (Speaking via video link)
Mr NG Ser Miang is the Singapore Ambassador to the Republic of Hungary and the Kingdom of Norway. He was appointed a Justice of Peace in September 2005. He was a Nominated Member of Parliament from June 2002 till 1 January 2005. Mr Ng is a Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He serves in the IOC Finance Commission, IOC Audit Committee, IOC Co-ordination Commission for London 2012 and the 127th Session Bid Evaluation Commission. He is also Chairman of the Singapore 2010 Inaugural Youth Olympic Games and the 1st Asian Youth Games Steering Committee. He was a member of the IOC Solidarity Commission, the IOC 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Coordination Commission, the Olympic Congress 2009 Editorial Committee and President of the 117th IOC Session Singapore Organising Committee, 2005. He was also Chairman of the Evaluation Commission for the 124th IOC Session in 2011 and the 125th IOC Session in 2013. Born in 1949, Mr Ng graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) Degree from the then University of Singapore and was also conferred a Fellow at the Chartered Institute of Transport (FCIT). Mr Ng is the Chairman of TIBS International Pte Ltd. He founded TIBS, the second bus company in Singapore in 1981 until its merger with SMRT in 2001. He was Chairman of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Choice Homes Co-operative Ltd from February 1996 to September 2010. He is also Chairman of the NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Ltd. Currently, he serves as independent director on the boards of Singapore Press Holdings Limited and Yanlord Land Group Limited. He is the Chairman of Network China. He served as a member of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC) from 2001 to September 2008. Mr Ng has served as independent director on several public listed and private companies ranging from insurance, finance, venture capital, leisure industries and transport. Mr Ng is Chairman of the Singapore Olympic Foundation, the Singapore Olympic Academy Board of Governors, Vice-President of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and Chairman of its Finance Committee. He is also a member on the Resource Panel (Chinese Newspaper Division) of the Singapore Press Holdings Ltd. He was Chairman of the Singapore Sports Council from 1991 till October 2002 as well as a member of the Steering Committee on Sporting Singapore and Chairman of the Sub Committee on Developing Sports Industry. In addition to the Public Service Star in 1999, Mr Ng was conferred The Meritorious Service Medal by the Singapore Government in 2011. He also received the following awards, namely a Gold Medal by the International Sailing Federation in 1998; International Olympic Committee Centennial Olympic Games Trophy in 1996; International Olympic Committee Trophy “Sports and the Community” in 2006; Olympic Council of Asia’s Award of Merit in 2009; the NTUC May Day Award – Medal of Commendation in 1993, NTUC Friend of Labour Award in 2001, NTUC Meritorious Service Award in 2007 and the Outstanding Chief Executive of the Year Award (Singapore Business Awards) in 1992. |
Juergen Mueller FIFA Head of 2014, 2018, 2022 FIFA World Cups
Juergen Mueller leads the 2014, 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups Department at FIFA. He joined FIFA in February 2009 to manage the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup Bid process after leading the Event Division of UEFA EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland. Before Juergen was Senior Product Manager of UEFA in charge of the UEFA EURO 2004 in Portugal. In this function he lead the bid process for UEFA EURO 2008. He started his career at the German Football Association as Head of the Youth Football department and later joined T.E.A.M. Marketing as Senior Manager and Project Director of the UEFA Champions League Finals in Barcelona 1999, Paris 2000 and Milan 2001. Juergen Mueller is married, has two children, a University degree in Sports Science, and a degree in Commercial Management. |
Chris Foy Head of Overseas Operations VisitBritain
Chris is Head of 2012 Games Unit at VisitBritain, the National Tourism Agency. He worked on the London Olympic project since 2009, leading on VisitBritain’s strategy development for the Games; implementing a marketing partnership with Samsung, delivering a business engagement programme with LOCOG and co-ordinating the organisation’s Games-time operations. Prior to working on the Games, he managed VisitBritain’s relations with devolved nations and regions of Britain, and spent nine months seconded to the London Development Agency in 2008 to lead London’s visitor welcome project in the lead up to the Games. Chris’s background is in marketing, with previous roles at Visit London and in the ski industry. He is a regular speaker on sport and Olympic tourism issues. Distracted by most sports, he is a keen cyclist, skier, and triathlete. |
Tom Fox Chief Commercial Officer Arsenal
Tom Fox joined Arsenal Football Club in August of 2009 as the Chief Commercial Officer, a newly created role established to oversee all of the Club’s commercial efforts worldwide. Tom has over 20 years of experience in brand management and sports marketing. Prior to joining Arsenal he was at the Wasserman Media Group, a leading sports marketing agency, as a Principal responsible for Business and Corporate Development. He joined WMG from Pepsi Co. where he was the Senior Vice President of Sports Marketing for Gatorade Thirst Quencher. At Gatorade Tom and his team were responsible for developing the brand’s sports marketing strategies including all league, team and spokesperson relations and negotiations. During his most recent 8-year run on the brand he helped fuel growth of over 104% through new product introductions like Propel Fitness Water and sub-lines like Fierce, Rain and X-Factor and A.M. He helped create some of the most memorable and industry acclaimed sports-television commercials in recent memory, like Michael vs. Mia II, Jordan 23 v. 39, Big Head and Origins. He was named to the Sports Business Journal’s prestigious Forty Under 40 list for 2001 and 2002. Tom began his career with Quaker Oats in 1985 as an Assistant Brand Manager in the company’s food division. He advanced through the company’s ranks to the position of Group Manager of Worldwide Sports Marketing before departing Quaker in 1993. Immediately prior to re-joining the Gatorade brand in April of 1999, Tom held the title of U.S. Sports Marketing Director for Nike, Inc. in Beaverton, Ore. There he was responsible for the strategic direction and management of Nike’s sports marketing programs in the United States, including league, team and spokesperson relationships. He was moved into that role after 7 months as Asia Pacific Sports Marketing Director for Nike, based in Hong Kong, overseeing the brands’ sports related activities across the region. Prior to his tenure with Nike, Tom was Vice President, Managing Director for NBA Asia, Ltd. in Hong Kong from 1994-1997. During that time he dramatically increased the league’s profile in this important region by opening offices in Hong Kong and Tokyo and expanding the broadcast presence of live games on free and pay television. He also held the post of director of sponsor programs at NBA Properties in New York from 1993-1995. Tom received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1985. |
Diamil Faye President and CEO Jappo Sports & Events Management
Founder of JAPPO ( www.jappo.net), Diamil Faye has developed, since 1993, a vast experience within the Olympic movement. After contributing to the return of Cambodia in the Olympic Movement at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, he worked as a Manager for the organizing committees of the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games and Senior Expert for Beijing 2008 and Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Among other international projects that Diamil worked on are: the New York bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, the Sochi bid for the Winter Olympics Games in 2014. He also coordinated the planning and the production of the Technical bid file for the Abuja bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Currently, Diamil serves as a Senior Adviser to the Tokyo 2020 Bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020. Adviser to the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and the owner and President of a first division Football Team in Senegal, Diamil has initiated several other major projects in Africa such as the Africa Sports Hall of Fame, the annual JAPPO Awards, the Africa Sports Directory and an important children Sports and Education program in Senegal (CISA Kids). Diamil is also the initiator of the annual Africa International Sports Convention (CISA) which 6th edition was successfully hosted by Mali in March 2012. |
Alexander Koch Deputy Head of Corporate Communications FIFA
Alexander started to work in the world of Sports Marketing already in 1995 where he gained his first experience in the Athletic Department of ISL Worldwide. In 1999 he managed the local office of ISL in Seville for the World Championships in Athletics. He then moved to the Football Department and joined FIFA after the bankruptcy of ISL in 2001. He played a leading role in developing FIFA’s Marketing Programme for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. He was in charge of the creation of the Official Event Emblem, the Official Poster, the Official Mascot, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour, the Fan Fests (Official Public Viewing) and parts of the music programme. After 2006, Alexander joined the Communications Department of FIFA, worked for the monthly magazine “FIFA World” and focuses now on corporate communications including company presentations and publications. His first professional experience however, Alexander gained as a banker. And the sport he practised actively for many years is rowing.
Alexander Koch is married, has three children and loves many different sports, especially in the mountains and on the water. He joined FIFA in 2001, was in charge of the marketing programme for the FIFA World Cup in 2006 and is now in charge of FIFA’s annual report as well as corporate presentations. |
Campbell Jamieson General Manager - Commercial International Cricket Council
Campbell Jamieson has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in cricket administration, both at a national and international level. As an employee of the Australian Cricket Board for seven years from 1989, he was seconded to the ICC for one year as Executive Assistant and Events Manager in 1996 - he shows no sign of returning and was appointed to the important role of Commercial Manager in 2001. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and played grade cricket in Australia for Melbourne and North Melbourne. On the rare occasions when he is not traveling on ICC business, Campbell lives in Dubai. |
Prof. Wolfgang Maennig Professor of Economics Hamburg University
Wolfgang Maennig is professor at the Department of Economics of Hamburg University. He was a visiting professor at the American University in Dubai as well as at the Universities Stellenbosch (South Africa) and Istanbul, at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and at the University of Economics Bratislava. He was also visiting scholar at International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., and at Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt. His research concentrates on sport economics, transport economics and real estate economics and has been published in numerous academic journals, including Applied Economics, Economic Letters, Environment and Planning A, Labour Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Regional Studies, Journal of Sports Economics, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Real Estate Economics, and Transportation Research. He is co-editor of the International Handbook on the Economics of Mega Sporting Events. Wolfgang Maennig has worked as an expert for many bids of large sport events, eg. the Olympic bids of Berlin 2000, Leipzig 2012, Munich 2018 and the Athletics World Cup Berlin 2009. He was Olympic Champion (rowing, eight with coxwain) at the Olympics 1988 in Seoul and president of the German Rowing Federation, 1995-2001. In 2000 he received the Olympic Order. |
Dora Bakoyannis, MP Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Mayor of Athens
Dora Bakoyannis is a Member of the Greek Parliament.
She has been Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2009.
She was Mayor of Athens from 2002 to 2006, the first female Mayor of Athens in the history of modern Greece.
Dora Bakoyannis was elected as Member of Parliament for the Athens 1st Constituency in 1996, 2000 and 2007, coming first in votes in every election.
She was appointed Minister for Culture in 1992 and Under-Secretary of State in 1990.
She was elected in 1989, 1990 and 1993 as Member of Parliament for Evrytania, the constituency of her late husband, the journalist and scholar Pavlos Bakoyannis, following his assassination by a terrorist group.
Born in 1954, she studied Political Science and Communication at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich. She continued her studies in Political Science and Public Law at the University of Athens. She speaks fluently English, French and German.
In 2010, she received the National Order of the Chivalry of the Legion of Honour of the French Republic. In 2009, she was named as the first female foreign associate of the French Academy in Humanities and Political Sciences. The same year, she was also awarded the title of Honorary Senator by the European Academy of Human and Political Sciences in Salzburg. Bakoyannis was voted World Mayor in 2005. Since 2006, she has been included in the Forbes annual list of the Worlds’ Most Powerful Women for three consecutive years.
She is married to Isidoros Kouvelos and has two children, Alexia and Kostas. |

Ken Fuchs is vice president of Global Media for Yahoo! & head of Yahoo! Sports, Men's and Games. In his role Ken oversees programming, content, and the overall business and operating strategy for these groups globally.
Prior to joining Yahoo!, Ken was most recently vice president of digital business development for Time Inc., where he was responsible for consumer distribution strategies and partnerships for Time Inc.’s 26 web properties and 22 print publications. Prior to that, Ken served as the vice president and general manager of Sports Illustrated Digital Group, and was previously the vice president of strategy and development for Fox Interactive Media’s revenue group. Pere Duran General Manager Turisme de Barcelona
Graduate in Public Management and Business Administration from ESADE. He has been involved in the tourism sector since 1980. He worked for four years in leading travel agencies specialising in congresses and incentive travel. At the end of 1984 he joined the Barcelona Tourist Board. In 1986 he became manager of its department, the Barcelona Convention Bureau. He was manager of the "Patronato de Turisme de Barcelona" from 1988 until its dissolution in 1993. He has been President of the European Federation of Conference Towns (1995-96) Since 1994, is manager of the “Consorcio de Turisme de Barcelona”. Since July 2000 he was appointed general manager of the said Consorcio de Turisme de Barcelona. He was a member of the Tourism Advisory Committee of the Catalan Government. Tim’s real passion is major events and sporting venues where he has led teams in Sydney, Beijing and Athens Olympic Games create the vision, develop and implement some of the most challenging infrastructure and iconic design venues that have won numerous awards and still stand today as being the most successful events in the history of the Olympic Movement. Tim has won several awards for architecture throughout Australia and has authored numerous publications and technical papers in stadium design. He lectures extensively in major sporting events around the world and sits on technical judging panels for innovation and design for the next generation of architects and entrepreneurs. He regularly lectures at international seminars and conferences on the subject of architectural influence in the world of major projects. He was a key guest lecturer at the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Program for Sports Leadership Development at Ohio University,USA. |

Heidi Ueberroth President of International NBA
Heidi Ueberroth joined the NBA in 1994 and has been instrumental in expanding the league’s global presence. In November 2009, she was named the first President of NBA International and is responsible for leading the NBA's operations outside the United States. She oversees a staff based in 14 offices worldwide that manage the NBA's international business activities across television and media, marketing partnerships, consumer products, events, marketing communications, and new business initiatives. Under her direction, NBA games and programming are televised to 215 countries and territories in more than 40 languages. Lewis H. Sherr is the Chief Revenue Officer for the USTA. In this role, he is responsible for corporate partnership sales and business development for the USTA, the US Open, the Emirates Airline US Open Series, community-based programs and all associated USTA properties. In addition, Sherr oversees the Partnership Marketing, Licensing and Hospitality departments. He works out of the association’s national headquarters in White Plains, N.Y.
Sherr initially joined the USTA in 2010 as Managing Director, Corporate Partnerships, before being promoted to his current position in 2011. Hassan Al Thawadi Secretary General Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee
Hassan Al Thawadi holds the position of Secretary General of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, the organisation responsible for coordinating amongst government agencies within the state to ensure infrastructure and development projects are delivered in readiness for the event in 2022.
His appointment in March 2011 as Secretary General follows on from his role as CEO in Qatar’s 2022 Bid Committee, in which he worked closely with Bid Chairman, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, promoting Qatar’s revolutionary and ultimately successful attempt to bring the FIFA World Cup to the Middle East for the first time.
