Once again the Host Cities Summit in Dubai proved insightful to those in the industry seeking to bid for or capitalise on existing events. As an increasing number of cities and countries seek to drive sports tourism up the political agenda it is important to stay ahead of the pack and ensure competitive advantage by being at the cutting edge of developments. The Host Cities Summit in Dubai provided the best possible environment to achieve just that and gave the industry’s leading experts the opportunity to debate and discuss topical issues and assess where the market is heading.

The Host Cities Summit was a wonderful opportunity to explore new concepts and ideas for the growing market of mega events. It was a place to showcase your work and develop a strong network and the multilevel benefits of attending this event are certainly worth especially if you are a city planning mega event, a mega event organization, a services provider or a design and architecture firm. I met so many interesting people and exchanged thoughts and new ideas about how to balance the cost and benefits of mega events. I am already planning my trip for next year as I am sure there will be more case studies and experiences on this fascinating subject.

In the run-up to significant international events in Dubai it was a great idea to invite experts from the fields of sport, culture and business to discuss the current issues of large-scale sport and cultural events. The topics of plenary discussions and workshops gave a lot of useful information for thought and outstanding examples of bidding and hosting of the international events.

I was delighted to be able to speak at the third Host Cities Summit about home-grown events and their impact and legacy for a city. I enjoyed being part of this excellent group of speakers from around the world, the networking opportunities and the whole experience. The setting at the Ritz Carlton Hotel was fantastic, but most importantly I valued the opportunity to meet other event professionals and learn from their experiences.

Intriguing discussions and conversations about how a host city can contribute to a better event. It was a pity that time wasn't on our side to dive further into the many interesting questions raised as we might then have not been able to end the conference in a week!

Very interesting and very well organised. The calibre of attendees was significant and certainly everyone I spoke to was impressed.

In particular I loved the fact that it was truly an international audience all with the focus on widening the events network to include emerging cities. Plus it was fabulous to see women well represented at the summit but also on most of the panels. I hope you can build on that for next year.
